I studied bioscience before going into medicine. I trained in adult and pediatric neurosurgery and spent several decades operating on and writing about brains. During those years I got a doctorate in history and spent almost two decades teaching undergraduates and writing books and articles about the history of science and medicine. I also started and sold three companies that dealt with large medical databases and hold a number of patents in that area. What I have learned about neurobiology, history, and artificial intelligence comes together in the story of how we move information.
